Other Valves and Accessories

Additional components for reliable piping systems

Many other components can play an essential role in piping systems by regulating, controlling and/or safeguarding flow.

For example, check valves prevent backflow of liquids and gases, sight glasses enable visual inspection of fluid flow, strainers retain harmful solid particles, and plug valves provide a robust shut-off solution for demanding applications such as abrasive or viscous media.

Check valves

The silent guardian against backflow

A check valve, also known as a non-return valve, is an essential component in piping systems that ensures a medium—liquid or gas—can only flow in one direction. As soon as the flow stops or tends to reverse, the valve closes automatically, thereby preventing backflow. This occurs entirely passively, without external actuation, and is based on pressure differences within the system.

The operation is simple yet crucial: when the pressure on the inlet side is higher than on the outlet side, the valve opens. If the pressure drops or reverses, the valve closes immediately. When correctly applied, this protects installations against damage such as pressure surges or the return of unwanted media. In industrial installations, water distribution and process piping, check valves are therefore indispensable safety components.

Sight glasses

Transparency in process flow

Sight glasses, also known as inspection “windows”, are components integrated into piping systems to enable visual inspection without interrupting the process. They typically consist of a transparent element—usually glass or an alternative—mounted in a housing and installed in the pipeline.

Their primary function is to allow operators to observe flow, color, clarity, presence of air bubbles, contamination or phase changes (e.g. liquid to gas). This makes them particularly valuable in installations where process reliability and quality control are essential.

Strainers

The silent guardian of the system

Strainers in piping systems (such as Y-strainers), are mechanical components designed to remove solid particles from a flowing medium. These are not extensive filtration systems, but compact components installed directly in the pipeline. Their primary function is to protect downstream equipment such as pumps, control valves, heat exchangers and measuring instruments against damage or wear caused by debris such as rust, sand, welding slag or other contaminants.

In essence, these strainers operate by allowing the medium to pass through a perforated or mesh element. Solid particles are retained while the liquid or gas continues to flow. This simple principle prevents damage, increases system reliability and extends the service life of critical components. In industrial installations where continuity is crucial, strainers are therefore not a luxury but a necessary safeguard.

Plug valves

Robust and a champion in sealing performance

Plug valves are quarter-turn valves in which a cylindrical or conical plug with a through-opening rotates within a precisely matched body. A 90° rotation opens or completely shuts off the flow. Although the operating principle may seem straightforward at first glance, a high-quality plug valve requires significant engineering expertise and material knowledge.

Modern plug valves are designed as maintenance-friendly shut-off valves without external lubrication, making use of advanced liner and sealing materials. Unlike older lubricated systems, these valves rely on precision tolerances and high-performance polymers to ensure durable and leak-tight operation.

Their greatest added value lies in applications involving “difficult media”: hazardous, toxic, corrosive, crystallizing or polymerizing products. Thanks to their design with minimal dead spaces and a sufficiently large bore, they limit buildup, adhesion and clogging, which is essential for process reliability.

Advantages

Benefits of
other appendages

Our other fittings offer numerous advantages that distinguish them from other valves:

Compact and lightweight

Due to their simple design, our other accessories are space-saving and lightweight, which simplifies installation and maintenance.

Fast operation

The quarter-turn action allows butterfly valves to be opened or closed quickly, which is critical in applications where fast flow control is required.

Cost-efficient

The low production costs make our other accessories an affordable solution without compromising on performance.

Maintenance

Maintenance and service life

The simple design of our other valves ensures low maintenance requirements, but regular inspections are important to maintain their lifespan and performance. In industrial applications where valves are exposed to high pressure or temperature, proper maintenance is crucial to ensure their durability and effectiveness.
