What are globe valves?

Globe valves are indispensable components for controlling, throttling and shutting off liquids or gases in a wide range of industrial applications. Thanks to their robust construction, choice of materials and precise flow control, they are widely used in water, heating applications, steam, process, chemistry and energy systems.

Construction and Material Options
  • Body:
    Globe valves are manufactured from bronze, brass, stainless steel, carbon steel and ductile iron, among others. This allows the choice of material to be tailored to the required corrosion resistance, pressure/temperature and medium.

    • Bronze/Brass: Widely used in heating, water, compressed air and utility due to corrosion resistance and reliability.
    • Stainless steel: Used in the (petro)chemical, pharmaceutical, food and aggressive media offers excellent corrosion resistance and temperature tolerance.
    • Carbon steel and ductile iron: Suitable for steam, (thermal) oil, hot water streams and industrial media: they provide mechanical strength and can handle higher pressures and temperatures.

  • Seat and Seals:
    The valve can be solid metal (bronze, stainless steel, steel), PTFE covered or soft seated, depending on the application. Gaskets are made of PTFE, graphite or fiber. For zero-emission and intensive use, there are bellows-sealed versions.

  • Connections:
    Globe valves are available with female thread (BSP/NPT), weld ends or flange (DIN, ANSI, …).

  • Precise flow control:
    Thanks to the internal spherical seat, very precise flow control is possible. This makes globe valves suitable for both shut off and control applications. 
  • Rising or non-rising stem:
    Globe valves are usually equipped with a rising stem (the position indicates the opening position), but there are also compact versions with a non-rising stem. 
  • Robust Sealing:
    Globe valves provide reliable sealing, even at high pressures and temperatures. 
  • Bellow-Sealed Seal:
    For applications with steam, hazardous or volatile media, a bellows seal is common: a stainless-steel bellows provides a hermetic seal to the outside and prevents leakage. 
  • Easy Maintenance:
    Most models have a screwed or bolted cover and gland so that service and replacement of parts are easy to perform. 
  • Installation and operation:
    Globe valves should always be mounted according to the indicated flow direction for optimal performance and service life. 
  • Throttling plugs and soft seats:
    Some models are equipped with a throttling plug or soft seal for adding control precision or tightness in sensitive applications. 
  • Standards and Certificates:
    Globe valves are produced and tested according to international standards such as ISO 9001, EN 12266-1, PED 2014/68/EU and, on request, ATEX. Marking and pressure class are in accordance with EN and DIN. For food products, seals are also available with FDA certification. 
  • Heating and Water Distribution:
    Widely used for shut off and control applications in heating, cooling and water supply systems. 
  • Steam and Energy Systems:
    Bellows-sealed globe valves are standard in steam circuits and thermal oil systems due to their high pressure and temperature resistance. 
  • Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry:
    Stainless steel globe valves are chosen in aggressive, corrosive or hygienic processes. 
  • Compressed Air and Industrial Media:
    Suitable for utility, process and distribution pipes. 
  • Process and Petrochemical Plants:
    Carbon steel, stainless steel and bellows versions provide safety and long life in demanding applications.
